Introduction

A multi-disciplinary adventure race organized by Nomad Adventure Sdn Bhd and supported by the Selangor Tourism Action Council. The Event will take place in the wilderness of Kuala Kubu Bharu, Selangor on 7 April 2007 (Saturday).

The adventure race will take participants through one of Selangor's natural adventure playground with the famous Chiling waterfalls and Selangor river.

Race Information

 

Adventure Race Format & Disciplines

The race duration will be as follows:-

  • Eco X-Treme – 8 to 12 hours

  • Ultra Pedal / Sprint – 4 to 6 hours

Participants will be presented with physical challenges and mystery tests along the adventure race route. The team that finishes the fastest after completing all the challenges and mystery tests shall win the grand prize.

The adventure race disciplines are as follows. Please ensure that you have adequate experience in all disciplines.

Entry Fees

Open Team Category

  • Malaysian teams
    - RM 350 per team (RM 315 for early birds)

  • Singaporean / International teams
    - USD 120 per team (USD 108 for early birds)

Open Pedal / Sprint Category

  • Malaysian participants
    - RM 120 per person (RM 108 for early birds)

  • Singaporean / International participants
    - USD 50 per person (USD 45 for early birds)

 

Includes Prize Giving Dinner, Event t-shirt, Sponsorship goodies and Medal of Completion.

Accommodation and food arrangements can be arranged for. We are currently finalizing the details, but expect the rates to be about RM40 (USD12) per person (1 night stay + 1 dinner + 1 breakfast)

Registration Eligibility

  • Participants must be aged 18 or above on race day.

  • Each team shall consist of two members – Men, Women and Mixed

  • Participants must be of sound physical condition, free of any type of bodily ailment. If in any case that an individual is allowed by the race organizer to participate, it is still his/her responsibility to inform the race organizer or doctors of any possible factors that may trigger or aggravate a specific ailment

  • Participants must undergo proper training and possess ample experience in all of the race physical disciplines as listed above. The Race Organizer may reject a team’s application if in the Race Organizer’s sole discretion and opinion, any member of the team lacks the necessary skills, experience, or in any other way not able or fit to compete in the race safely.

  • Each member of each team must have his/her own set of personal life, accident and medical insurance prior to entering the registration process

  • Each participant is allowed to be registered into just one team

  • In the event of over subscription, teams will be selected on a first come, first serve basis. Not withstanding this, the Race Organizer has absolute discretion to decide whether or not to accept a team's registration. The Race Organizer's decision will be final.

Equipment

Eco X-Treme Team Category

COMPULSORY Equipment per Participant

  • Climbing harness with CE or UIAA certification (certified for rock climbing purposes)

  • Two locking carabiners (May be autolock or screw gate)

  • One abseil device: Figure of eight or Omega Pacific SBG II. No ATC or Petzl Huit allowed

  • Two slings (minimum 60cm long)

  • Water container good to contain minimum 2 liters of hydration liquid. Camelbak type hydration system is recommended.

  • One (1) Mountain Bicycle in good condition. At least 1 bike must have front light and back red flashing light. Road bikes, time trial bikes, cyclo-cross and tandem bikes are not permitted.

  • One (1) Biking or climbing Helmet per participant

  • One (1) Headlamp or torch per participant

  • One (1) pair of full-fingered Gloves suitable for abseiling

  • Footwear - running shoes/ cross trainer/ trail shoes (open toe footwear not allowed!)

COMPULSORY Equipment per Team

  • Minimum of 1 spare tubes, 1 set of tire levers, 1 pump (only on the mountain bike sections)

  • One first aid kit containing at minimum the following items :

    • One triangular bandage 90cm x 130cm

    • One Crepe bandage 8cm x 1.5m

    • Gauze pad 3in x 3in: three pieces

    • Antiseptic ointment (15g minimum) OR liquid (20ml minimum) OR swabs (5 pieces)

    • 1 inch wide medical adhesive tape : 1 roll

    • Oral rehydration salts : 3 packets minimum

    No team will be allowed to start the race if they do not have the above-mentioned equipment, or if the equipment is not of the appropriate standard and which will, in the sole discretion and opinion of the Race Organizer, pose a danger or injury to the participant and/or others.

 

Ultra Pedal Category

COMPULSORY Equipment per Participant

  • Water container good to contain minimum 2 liters of hydration liquid. Camelbak type hydration system is recommended.

  • One (1) Mountain Bicycle in good condition. The bike must have front light and back red flashing light. Road bikes, time trial bikes, cyclo-cross and tandem bikes are not permitted.

  • One (1) Biking or climbing Helmet per participant

  • Minimum of 1 spare tubes, 1 set of tire levers, 1 pump (only on the mountain bike sections)

  • 1 first aid kit containing items as per list above

  • One (1) Headlamp or torch per participant

Ultra Sprint Category

  • Footwear - running shoes/ cross trainer/ trail shoes (open toe footwear not allowed!)

Optional Equipment

  • Quick dry / dri-fit clothing

  • Energy bar / power gel

  • Electrolyte energy powder mix

  • Drybags to keep your paperwork and first aid kit dry

  • Rain Jacket to keep dry and warm

  • Deep Heat Spray / Insect Repellant

Rules & Regulations

Race Safety

Participant's Responsibility

  • Every competitor is responsible for his/her involvement in the race and is the sole judge of whether he/she should begin or continue competing in the race. However, the Race Organizer reserves the absolute right and discretion to ban a competitor from starting or continuing the race, if in the Race organizer’s opinion that the competitor is likely to cause him/her self injury either by starting or continuing the race. The race organizer’s decision will be final.

  • Participants who are not certain of their physical and/or mental capacities to participate in this race are advised to consult their family doctor prior to participation.

  • Participants must ensure that they are well-rested prior to the race day and are well-hydrated and equipped with personal hydration packs on race day.

  • If participants feel unwell during the race, they must stop and ask for medical attention from the support crews along the race route.

Organizer's Responsibility

  • The Race Organizer will provide First-Aid service during the race. There will be First Aid stations along the race route. There will also be mobile support crews along the route to provide First Aid assistance.

  • Water re-hydration points shall be available along designated places within the route course.

  • Race officials at all Check points will have communication accessibility to the Race Organizers.

 

Foul Weather

This is a "Rain or Shine" race. However, in the event of intensified rains or wind, the organizer reserves the right to delay or re-route the course and/or discipline. Should bad weather persist, the organizer reserves the right to cancel the race without refund of fees paid in the interest of the competitors' safety or any other reason. The Race Organizer's decision will be final.

 

Race Briefing & Skills Testing

All competitors must attend a compulsory pre-race briefing and skills testing prior to the race. The organizer will inform participants of full details via email and /or phone.

Failure to attend the briefing will result in automatic disqualification from the race.

 

General

  • ALL teams and sprinters must report at 8.00am at the designated starting point.

  • Registration opens at 7.00am and closes at 8.00am. A ten-minute grace period will be given to late-comers. Any team or sprinter that reports after the said grace period will not be allowed to participate in the race.

  • All mandatory gear will be inspected during the race testing and on race day, at the registration counter by the Race Organizer.

  • Race Bibs must be worn on the outside of clothing at all times.

  • Use of all electronic devices other than wristwatches are prohibited (e.g cell phone, pager, radio, etc.)

  • Teams / Sprinters must stay on the prescribed course and use only the mode of travel specified for each leg.

  • Participants are expected to respect the environment and the governing rules of Malaysia.

  • Members of each team must be intact at all times. No member is allowed to be away from the rest of the team by more than 50 metres. Any team that violates this rule shall be automatically disqualified.

  • The Race Organizer reserves the right to change the rules or the course at any given time.

  • ANY FAILURE BY A COMPETITOR TO ADHERE TO THE ABOVE-MENTIONED RULES AND REGULATIONS CAN RESULT IN AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFICATION OF THE ENTIRE COMPETING TEAM.

  • Any teams or participants may choose not to participate in a technical skill section of the racecourse. Teams or any one participant of a team electing not to participate in any technical sections will not qualify to win awards, but will be permitted to complete the race. Teams or participants electing not to participate in any technical sections must report to a race official at the technical section to state their intention and receive instructions for alternative route around the technical section. In the event that a technical section requires two persons to administer, teams with fewer than the required number will not be able to engage in that technical section.

 

Race Timing

  • The Race Organizer shall activate the official time clock when the race is flagged down and stop it after the race cut-off time.

  • There will be cut-off times along the race route. Failure to check-in before the pre-determined cut-off time shall result in automatic disqualification to the team / sprinter.

 

Participants’ Assistance And Support Crew

  • The only assistance the participants’ personal support crew can give is to pick-up the team’s / sprinter’s bicycles from the participants at the designated checkpoint

  • NO other assistance, personal support or even physical contact from friends is allowed during the race. This includes handing of water or gear and equipment – other than those stated in the first item above. Any participants that violate this rule shall be automatically disqualified.

  • Leaving of other types of gear and equipment by the participants for their personal support crew to pick up is also not permitted within the route course or race. Any team or sprinter that violates this rule shall be automatically disqualified.

 

Checkpoints

  • One Race Passport will be issued to each team or sprinter. The passport must be stamped at each Check Point. Only designated Race Officials will stamp the passport.

  • Teams must enter and leave Checkpoints together.

  • To complete the entire race, teams / sprinter must pass through all Checkpoints.

  • Should a team / sprinter miss a Checkpoint, they must backtrack to the missed Checkpoint to get their passport stamped.

 

Mystery Tests And Challenges

  • ALL teams / sprinters will be given challenges and/or mystery tests along the race route. They are required to fulfill the task before progressing on the next phase of the race route.

  • Time taken to complete each task/challenge will be accounted in the total race time.

  • Should a team / sprinter not able to complete a test or a challenge, the team / sprinter may choose to accept a time penalty. During the time penalty, the team will follow the instruction of the marshals and shall not cause any blockage to the race and/or interact, disturb or otherwise affect the other teams competing.

 

Team Withdrawal And Disqualification

  • The team cannot continue and will be automatically disqualified should one member drop out of the race. However, the remaining team members may continue the race unranked if they wish to do so on a non-competitive basis.

  • Any voluntary withdrawal of a team or team member must be made at the nearest Checkpoint, except in medical emergency cases. The team / sprinter MUST then inform the checkpoint race official of their decision.

  • The Race Organizer reserves the right to decide if the team or person may continue for health safety or other reasons.

  • The Race Organizer reserves the right to disqualify a team or person for not following the instructions of the Race Organizer or any race official / marshal. The Race Organizer’s decision is final.

If you are willing to do some hiking or have some rock climbing skills, that's a plus, but not essential.
