Pre-race Skills Testing - What to Expect
All competitors who are taking part in the upcoming both the Eco X-Treme and Ultra Sprint will have to undergo a skills testing and equipment check. The available dates for pre race skills testing detailed below. For Ultra Pedallers, you will be required to undergo the equipment check on Friday only.
a) Tuesday 3rd Apr (Summit Climbing Gym) 6pm to 9pm OR
b) Friday 6th Apr (Akademi Bomba, KKB) 4.00pm to 7.30pm.
You only need to attend ONE day. Eco X-Treme teams and Ultra Sprinters who are based in Kuala Lumpur are highly encouraged to attend the Tuesday pre-race testing.
Attendance is compulsory for all team members. Yes, that means ALL two members. Teams need not be tested together i.e. team members can attend for one of the skills testing & equipment check individually according to their convenience.
Teams who do not pass the skills testing or equipment check will not be allowed onto the technical rope sections. We are serious about safety and on race testing day, we are super serious!
When you arrive, your first stop should be Race Registration. There we will sort out all your paperwork and outstanding payments and you will get your race testing sheets. From there you will go to all the stations listed below. You can go in any order. When you get your entire race testing sheets signed off, return to race registration.
Testing stations:
- Mandatory and First aid equipment show all items
- Mountain bike equipment check show all items except mountain bike
- Abseil station
- Traverse station
If you do not pass any of the stations, the marshal will not sign you off and you will not be allowed to take part in the race.
Do I have to bring each and every item stated in the mandatory equipment list?
Yes, we will check every thing in the mandatory equipment list down to the number of gauze pads, water container, etc. EVERYTHING.
Do I have to bring my mountain bike?
NO, you dont, but you have to bring a pump, a spare tube, and tire levers. But you have to bring your bike to the start of the race where it will be checked. So please make sure it is in good working condition or you wont be allowed to race.
Do all my team members have to do all the rope skills?
YES, we will test all team members on all ropes skills. Every participant in the Ultra Sprint category will be tested as well.
What happens if I cannot do a rope skill?
For skills testing conducted on Tuesday, our marshals will have more time to teach you the skills required for the technical rope sections. However for skills testing on Friday (6th Apr), if you are still incompetent, you run the risk of not being allowed on the technical rope sections and being an unranked team.
