Wilderness Medical Courses

rescue1Wilderness First Aid, 2-3 days (WFA)

This course focus on good basic life support techniques as well as environmental issues that arise in the wilderness. The class is mostly hands on skills with the use of scenarios and labs. Examples of some of the skills learned and practiced are: improvised splinting, wound cleaning, spine injury assessment and clearing protocols, heat and cold issues, near drowning, allergies, asthma and other common medical problems.

This course includes CPR training and meets or exceeds the minimum requirement for most CPR/First Aid training needs.

rescue1Wilderness Advanced First Aid, 5 days (WAFA)

This course is designed for outdoor professionals who guide multi-day trips or work in remote areas. It is similar to our WFA program with more time spent on scenarios and labs. WAFA students leave with a solid understanding of wilderness medicine and feel much more confident in their skills at the end of the course. This is the minimum amount of training for river guide licensing in Utah (U.S), and is a great alternative for folks that can not afford the time or money for the full WFR.

This course includes CPR training and meets or exceeds the minimum requirement for most CPR/First Aid training needs.

rescue1Wilderness First Responder, 8-9 days (WFR)

First Responder course is designed with the outdoor professional, outdoor enthusiast and SAR team member in mind. It has become the industry standard for most guide services and environmental education programs. It focuses on developing skills for treating problems when outside the “golden hour” of first response, under extreme conditions or forced to improvise. It is based on the protocols set by the Wilderness Medical Society and instruction encourages the students’ ability to think through body systems in an effort to determine the best response to traumatic, environmental or medical situations. Classroom sessions are followed with hands on practice to integrate the information in a field setting. We try to focus more on hands on skills rather than lecture by using scenarios and labs. The students will get to see their skill in action as a video coverage of intensive scenarios will be reviewed towards the end of the class.

This course includes CPR training and meets or exceeds the minimum requirement for most CPR/First Aid training needs.

rescue1Wilderness and Urban Disaster First Responder, 9 days (WUDFR)

This course encompasses all that the Wilderness First Responder Course does, but with the additional focus on Urban Disasters. We will look at incidents such as floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, and other disasters that communities are faced with. There are scenarios dealing with Mass Casualty Incidents, triage, motor vehicle accidents and extraction. This is a 9 day course, includes a night search and many scenarios.

This course includes CPR training and meets or exceeds the minimum requirement for most CPR/First Aid training needs.

rescue1WFR-Recertification, 3 days (WFR-Recert)

We accept any current card from WMI, WMA, WMTC, SOLO, and DMM. Any WFR cards issued by another company needs to be cleared by Rescue 3 West prior to registration. We believe that three days is an ideal length of time to practice your skills and refresh your abilities. The main elements of the course are skills labs and scenarios with little lecture time.

This course includes CPR training and meets or exceeds the minimum requirement for most CPR/First Aid training needs.
