Safety Standards

Nomad Adventure - Safety

Nomad Adventure is Malaysia’s first and only outdoor adventure company to be ISO 9001:2015 certified

As the industry leader for over 20 years, Nomad Adventure has set ground-breaking safety standards in Malaysia. In 2008, we became the first and only adventure company in Malaysia to be ISO 9001:2008 certified. This quality management system reflects our commitment to professionalism and internationally-recognized safety qualifications. This process starts from the moment you contact us either by mail or phone, all the way until you finish your trip with a huge smile on your face.

Every aspect of our services to you are quality assured. You can always expect us to provide honest advice and to recommend a program that suits your budget and physical ability. We don’t give you a false idea of the level of risk and difficulty involved just to make a sale. Our equipment is meticulously logged, inspected and maintained after every trip. Our risk management and staff training systems have been reviewed to international industry standards. All the policies and procedures are stringently audited every year by external auditors to ensure that there is compliance at all levels of the company.

ISO31031:2024 – Managing Risk for Youth and School Trips

In line with our ongoing dedication to excellence, Nomad Adventure has aligned our risk management practices with ISO 31031:2024—the international standard for travel risk management, with specific relevance to youth and school expeditions. This standard provides a comprehensive framework for assessing, planning, and responding to travel-related risks. By integrating its principles into our operations, we ensure every program includes proactive risk identification, age-appropriate safety measures, clear communication protocols, and robust emergency response plans. Whether it’s a student on an outdoor learning journey or a corporate team on a leadership retreat, you can be confident that safety and wellbeing are always our top priorities—backed by globally recognized best practices.

Safety Standards- white water rescue course

Our lead staff hold certifications in Wilderness First Aid, Rope and Swiftwater Rescue from Rescue 3 International, the most widely recognized rescue training provider in the world.  Our facility in Gopeng is the preferred training provider for Rescue 3 International in South East Asia. We train firemen, civil defense and  professional rescue services as well as for outdoor professionals such as river guides and climbing instructors in swiftwater and rope rescue. Founder Chan Yuen-Li is the Regional Director for South East Asia and we have four rescue 3 instructors on staff.

All our whitewater rafting trip leaders are also certified by the International Rafting Federation. We also own and operate the only ropes course in Malaysia with a certification from the Professional Ropes Course Association, the recognized industry standard.

Our qualifications and certifications ensure that we comply to industry best practices and standards. Our philosophy is that these qualifications provide a systematic framework for assessing hazards and managing risk. With these skills, field staff become more proactive, and have a better decision-making thought process to respond more effectively and better anticipate and prevent potentially dangerous situations from developing.

Beyond our certifications, we also have a strong safety culture where our people are empowered to lead, and are trained to be vigilant and mindful in how they apply their knowledge and skills in real-world situations. Safety is not just ‘something we have to do’, but we apply safety thinking in every task, every interaction, every day.
